ELIZABETH SCHUYLER HAMILTON (1757-1854)
Born in Albany, New York, the daughter of General Philip Schuyler and his wife Catherine Van Rensselaer, Elizabeth Schuyler was raised in Albany’s most elegant mansion.
The Schuylers were one of the nation’s wealthiest families, and Elizabeth and her siblings grew up accustomed to finery and elite company.
In 1779, Tench Tilghman, met Elizabeth Schuyler and wrote the following description of her:
I was prepossessed in favor of the young Lady the moment I saw her.
