Gil Bellows is an American actor, director, and producer, born on June 28, 1967, in Vancouver, Canada.
He began his acting career in his teenage years in Canada, starring in the film "First Seasons." He later moved to the United States, where he studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles before heading to New York.
In New York, Bellows appeared in off-Broadway productions such as "True West" and "Beirut." In 1991, he made his on-screen debut in the United States, appearing in an episode of the renowned TV series "Law & Order" on NBC.
He went on to have guest roles in the sitcom "Flying Blind" on Fox in 1992 and the series "Going to Extremes" on ABC in 1993.
In 1994, Bellows had a breakthrough role in the film "The Shawshank Redemption." Initially, Brad Pitt had been cast for the role but dropped out at the last moment.
